It’s Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas…

The festive season is upon us once again – and Dubai is embracing the season by doing what Dubai does best – turning on the festivities galore, showcasing a multicultural nation coming together to make this a season everyone hopefully will enjoy – one way or another.

Dubai’s shopping malls are filled with decorative and seasonal window displays and music systems are filling our ears with Christmas carols like “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” or “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!” Not much chance of any white precipitation falling from the sky, but if snow is what it takes – a visit to Ski Dubai should help ease (read: freeze) you into the festive season!

Where I come from, anything but a green Christmas tree would be frowned upon by most people – and I admit being one of those people, but that was in the past. Fair enough, I’ve no desire to have a purple, blue, pink or any other coloured – except maybe green – plastic fantastic tree in my home, but in Dubai’s malls and hotels they look amazing!

It’s beginning to feel a bit like Christmas… even for someone who got upset when her mother bought a beautiful green Christmas tree that didn’t come from the woods – it was Made in China!

In February 2016 I moved back to my native Norway after 13 years in Dubai, preceeded by two years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Before becoming a full time expat in 2001, I had a carrer as a travel consultant in Norway. My expat portfolio also includes six of my teenage years in Bahrain many moons ago and two years in Southport, Connecticut, USA.
