Norway’s National Day, 17th May, is celebrated to mark the beginning of our quest for independence with the signing of a new constitution on 17th May 1814. Norway’s forced union with Sweden began 14th January 1814 (after almost 400 years of Danish rule) and lasted until 1905 when Norway proclaimed, and secured, full independence.
